Chickens

Our Girls do a lot of work around the farm.  In addition to providing us with yummy eggs, When it comes time to dig up the beds they help us dig and fertilize at the same time!

ABOUT OUR “GIRLS”

We currently have 15 chickens.  Twelve of them live in a coop by themselves and 3 live with the goats.  Having them living with the goats is an experiment.  We will see how it goes.  We have chickens of the following breeds: Rhode Island Red, Easter egger, Silver Laced Wyandotte, Black Copper Maran, Barred Rock, Buff Orpington and Silkie.

Moving day for the chicks! (12/20/2016) - Today was moving day for the 7 week old chicks.  They moved from the brooder to the outdoor “Teen Hangout”.  This is a sectioned off area of the run just for the chicks until they begin to lay.  I do not put them in with the layers before they begin to lay because the layer …
Lots of eggs for sale (2/21/2016) - We currently have lots of eggs if anyone is in need of fresh eggs from free range, happy chickens.  The chickens are fed organic feed and veggie scraps from our organic gardens.  They are $7 a dozen.  Email me at pam@shantifarm.org if you are interested.
